Dingwall fencer, Tom Hoffmann has been called up to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Canberra, Australia at the end of this year. This is the second time Tom has been selected to fence for his country in this competition having previously been part of the medal winning men’s’ epee team at Largs in 2014 when he was only 18.

Fencers have to self fund their travel, accommodation, competition fees and other expenses and to that end Tom has launched a crowdfunding campaign and Dingwall Fencing Club are pleased to have been able to contribute £300 from club funds.
Tom, from Jamestown in Strathpeffer, has been fencing at the club for around 15 years and for the last few years has been lead coach.
Club chair, David Ferguson said, “Tom has been a part of this club since he was a young boy and It’s been great to watch his development from beginner to representing his country. Tom’s success shows you don’t have to come from a big city club to do well. His input into the club and his coaching have helped to make us who we are today. We will all be cheering him on and look forward to even more success for him.”
Tom has previously won ten national titles – 9 Scottish and Scottish Schools Under 20 titles and the 2015 Scottish Universities Championship. He has also won 6 Senior Open titles and represented Great Britain 8 times at international level.
Dingwall Fencing Club meet on a Thursday evening at 7:30 in the Dingwall Town Hall. If you would like to support Tom’s Go Fund Me campaign you can do so at https://www.gofundme.com/commonwealth-championships-fencing
