Chairman’s Christmas Message

Christmas Message from the Club Chair

That’s 2016 over as far as the club is concerned, and what a year it has been. The club has continued to grow with new faces joining us throughout the year. We’ve been able to buy lots of new kit, including a brand new wireless scoring kit for the club epeeists. We’ve had our first delivery of club hoodies to add to the t-shirts and mugs.  We’ve had fencers in action  in competitions local, national and international, some of them competing for the first time.  Tom has continued to build on his successes and has even managed to find time to do a plastic sword event with some air cadets. All in all, a good year past.

But we are also looking forward, forward to 2017. To welcoming fencers back and introducing new fencers to the sport. We look forward to seeing more of our fencers cut their teeth in competition and seeing our young fencers in particular continue to develop.

The year end is a good opportunity to say some important thank yous. I’d like to thank Ian for his continuing work as treasurer, Shivonne who stepped down as long serving secretary at the AGM at the start of the season and Cindy who has stepped in to take the role. I want to thank Tom, our coach for all his work in the club as well as every old hand who helps out with advice, coaching, refereeing and loaning kit. Thanks also need to go out to the parents who give up their time and money so their offspring can take part (often risking getting hooked on the sport themselves). Most of all though I want to thank you, our fencers.  Without you, there would be no club. Thank you all for making the club what is is today and giving us all a reason to keep things going and growing.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and a good new year, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all again in 2017! En garde, ready…
David Ferguson
