Have a question about Dingwall Fencing Club? Maybe we have the answer here. If you can’t find the answer to your question, why not get in touch?
Where Can I Find You?
We currently meet in the Games Hall at Dingwall Leisure Centre
Who Can Come?
We welcome fencers from the age of 8 upwards. Male or female. Young or old. Experienced fencers, total novices or anything in between
What Can I Expect
We usually start with a bit of a kickabout or a game, to get ourselves warmed up, maybe some footwork drill. After that we go into free practice were people can get a lesson with one of our coaches, practice some techniques with one of the experienced fencer or just fight off against each other.
Do I Have to be Very Fit to Fence?
Fencing is a sport which requires quite a lot of movement and as such it helps to have a reasonable level of fitness, but you don’t need to be a super athlete to start. Fencing is a great way to get fit, physically and mentally. As with any new exercise programme, if you have a medical condition, you should consult your GP before starting.
How Much Does It Cost
Each week costs £5, which helps to pay for the hire of the hall. Additionally, if you are going to be fencing with us long-term we would ask you to take out membership with the club. This costs £10 per year for waged adults or £5 for unwaged or under 18s. This helps to pay our running costs, including affiliation fees to the national body. We also strongly recommend that all fencers take out personal membership with Scottish Fencing, which starts at £10 per year and includes insurance.
Is The Kit Expensive?
Fencing equipment is not cheap, however, you don’t need to buy a complete set right away. The club has a growing amount of equipment that can be lent out and most of the experienced fencers also have spare kit that you can borrow. When you do decide to start buying your own kit, experienced fencers can advise you on what to start with and the best places to get a good deal.
What Do I Need To Bring With Me?
You should wear comfortable, loose fitting trousers (not shorts), a t-shirt and trainers (squash shoes are particularly good). You should also bring water for drinking. Apart from that, bring yourself and your enthusiasm!
